Kashmir schools to observe 15-day summer break from June 23

Srinagar, June 21: In response to the ongoing heatwave, Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Sakina Itoo on Saturday announced an early summer vacation for all government and private schools across the Kashmir division starting June 23.

The minister said that the prevailing heat conditions have become intolerable for students. “Given the intense heatwave, we are declaring an early summer break in all schools of Kashmir from June 23,” she stated.

Itoo added that the government would assess the weather situation after the 15-day break and consider an extension if necessary.

She also mentioned that the Education Department had initially planned the vacation from July 1 to July 10, but the schedule was advanced due to the extreme temperatures.

Additionally, the minister had earlier revised school timings: from Saturday, schools within Srinagar Municipal limits will operate from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM, while those outside these limits will function from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
