Srinagar, July 6: As speculation grows over a possible extension of the summer vacation in schools due to the ongoing heatwave, weather experts have ruled out the need, citing an imminent drop in temperatures across Kashmir starting Monday.
According to independent weather forecaster Faizan Arif of Kashmir Weather, there is “100% certainty” that the heatwave will ease and temperatures will return to a comfortable range for at least a week. “In fact, some days may even witness below-normal temperatures,” Arif said.
He noted that while the humidity is expected to continue until the monsoon withdraws—likely around August or September, there is no weather-based reason to prolong school closures.
“Weather models are in strong agreement that the heat will subside. We can’t expect July to behave like April or October,” he said, emphasizing that temperatures around 31–32°C are normal for this time of year and not severe enough to justify further break extensions.
