Qazigund, Jul 18: A youth lost his life during a scuffle with a suspected robber who forcibly entered their home in the Kishgund Sangran area of Qazigund, South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.
According to official sources, the accused posed as a security personnel and entered the house of Mohammad Yaseen Banday under the guise of carrying out a search operation.However, Zahid Ahmad Banday, son of the house owner, grew suspicious of the intruder’s behavior and attempted to stop him, leading to a physical altercation.
During the scuffle, the accused attacked Zahid with a sharp-edged weapon, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to Emergency Hospital Qazigund, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Meanwhile, other members of the family overpowered the accused and handed him over to the police. A toy pistol and a knife were recovered from his possession.The accused, who was also injured in the confrontation, was taken to GMC Anantnag for treatment.
A police official confirmed the arrest and said that an in-depth investigation into the incident is underway. (KNO)
