Srinagar, Jul 05: The Committee on Subordinate Legislation of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly has decided to review the rules governing land laws in the Union Territory to ensure they are in line with the original legal statutes.
Panel chairman and Pampore MLA Justice (Retd.) Hasnain Masoodi said the committee aims to examine whether the existing rules conform to the provisions of the parent laws. “If we find any inconsistencies, we will suggest necessary amendments,” he added.
The committee is tasked with examining subordinate legislation—rules and regulations framed under various laws—to confirm their legal validity and alignment with the parent legislation.
As part of the process, the panel will convene meetings, consult concerned departments, and seek clarifications before finalizing its recommendations. Once the review is complete, the committee’s report will be presented in the Assembly.
It is important to note that land laws in Jammu and Kashmir underwent major reforms after the constitutional changes of August 5, 2019. Following the revocation of Article 370, 12 land-related laws were repealed and 14 others amended—(KNO)
