Srinagar, Jul 08: The annual Amarnath Yatra continues to witness an overwhelming response, with over 1.11 lakh pilgrims having performed darshan at the holy cave shrine within the first six days of the pilgrimage.
As per the official figures, 93,342 pilgrims had visited the shrine till July 7, and an additional 18,633 devotees performed darshan today, pushing the cumulative number to 1,11,975.
The latest figures include 13,010 men, 4,118 women, 256 children, 174 sadhus, 26 sadhvis, 2 transgender devotees, and 347 security personnel.
Officials said the Yatra continues smoothly via both Pahalgam and Baltal routes, supported by favourable weather and heightened security.
Meanwhile, the 7th batch of 7,541 yatris — including 5,516 men and 1,765 women — left Jammu’s Bhagwati Nagar base camp early Tuesday in 309 vehicles, en route to the twin base camps in Kashmir.
Over 4.05 lakh people have registered for the Yatra so far. Authorities have reported four casualties to date, mostly due to health complications such as cardiac arrests, often linked to oxygen deficiency at high altitudes.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, in a post on X, acknowledged the high turnout, stating: “The journey of faith, Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, has crossed 1 lakh pilgrims in just six days. The Yatra continues peacefully on both routes and is expected to attract even more devotees in the days ahead.”
In a parallel development, J&K DGP Nalin Prabhat conducted a thorough security review along the Baltal axis. Accompanied by senior officers including the IGP Kashmir and DIG Central Kashmir Range, the DGP inspected security arrangements and facilities at various camps including Shadipora, Manigam, and Baltal.
The 38-day-long pilgrimage to the 3,880-metre-high Amarnath cave shrine, nestled in the south Kashmir Himalayas, began on July 3 and will culminate on August 9.
