New Delhi, Aug 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the nation’s 79th Independence Day celebrations from the historic Red Fort in the national capital on August 15, with this year’s theme centred on Naya Bharat. The event will showcase India’s progress towards the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, celebrating the country’s emergence as a prosperous, secure and bold nation.
On arrival, PM Modi will be received by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, and Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, before inspecting a Guard of Honour coordinated by the Indian Air Force. The national flag will be hoisted with a 21-gun salute by the 1721 Field Battery, followed by a flower-petal shower from two IAF Mi-17 helicopters, one carrying the Tricolour and the other the emblem of Operation Sindoor, whose success will be a highlight of this year’s celebrations.
More than 5,000 special guests including sportspersons, top-performing farmers, entrepreneurs, authors, students, and community leaders will witness the ceremony, along with over 1,500 people in traditional attire from across India. Public facilities such as cloakrooms, wheelchair assistance, and extended metro services will be available for visitors.
The day will also see a formation of the Naya Bharat logo by 2,500 NCC cadets and My Bharat volunteers at Gyanpath, and nationwide military band performances in the evening at over 140 locations to mark the occasion and honour the victory of Operation Sindoor.
