Jammu, June 23: A local court in Jammu on Monday granted a five-day remand to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for two individuals accused of assisting the Pakistani terrorists responsible for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
The arrested individuals — Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar of Batkote, Pahalgam, and Bashir Ahmad Jothar of Hill Park, Pahalgam were taken into custody by the NIA on Sunday, marking the first major breakthrough in the probe into the attack that claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists, and injured 16 others.
As per the NIA, during initial questioning, the duo revealed the identities of the three perpetrators, confirming them as Pakistani nationals linked to the proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Produced before Additional District and Sessions Judge Ritesh Kumar Dubey, the accused were remanded to NIA custody till June 27.
Investigations have revealed that Parvaiz and Bashir knowingly sheltered the armed terrorists at a seasonal dhok (hut) in Hill Park prior to the attack. They allegedly provided food, shelter, and logistical support.
According to the NIA, the terrorists had deliberately targeted tourists based on their religious identity, making the incident one of the deadliest and most communal terror attacks in recent years. (Agencies)
