Srinagar, Jun 23: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday clarified that there was no local involvement in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 civilians, stating that the perpetrators were all foreign militants.

Speaking to reporters in Gulmarg, Omar, said the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is leading the probe and has so far arrested two individuals accused of providing shelter to the attackers.

“While they did give food to the militants, it’s possible they did so under pressure. They may have been forced into it. The investigation is ongoing, and once completed, the NIA will file a chargesheet and proceed with legal action,” the Chief Minister said.

Commenting on the Iran-Israel conflict, Omar emphasized the need for an immediate and lasting ceasefire. “Twelve days of fighting have caused enough devastation. The sooner peace is restored, the better,” he noted.

He also expressed concern for the safety of students from Jammu and Kashmir studying in the conflict-affected region. “Our priority was ensuring the safe return of our children. There were times flights couldn’t operate due to closed airspace, but we’re hopeful that a major group will return today. Once that happens, the evacuation process will be complete,” Omar added.
