BRICS condemns Pahalgam attack, backs India’s ‘Zero Tolerance’ stand on terrorism

Srinagar: The BRICS grouping has strongly condemned the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives while reaffirming its commitment to India’s call for a ‘zero tolerance’ approach towards terrorism.

In a statement accessed by news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), BRICS denounced the attack in the strongest possible terms and called for ending double standards in global counter-terror efforts.

“We reaffirm our resolve to combat terrorism in all its forms, including cross-border terrorism, terror financing, and provision of safe havens,” the statement said. BRICS also urged for the early adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism under the UN framework and pressed for action against all UN-designated terrorists and terrorist entities.

The grouping also took a firm stand on United Nations Security Council (UNSC) reforms, stressing the need for a more democratic, representative, and effective Council that reflects the aspirations of the Global South, including Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

BRICS reiterated its support for countries like India and Brazil to have a greater role in the UN system, especially in the UNSC, to ensure that emerging and developing nations are better represented in shaping global decisions.
