Pahalgam terror attack: NIA court grants 10-day custody of two accused

Jammu: A special NIA court in Jammu on Monday extended the custody of two accused, linked to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, by an additional 10 days, allowing the National Investigation Agency to deepen its probe into the deadly assault that claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists.

As reported by Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the accused—Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar and Bashir Ahmad Jothar—were arrested on June 22 for allegedly providing shelter to the Pakistani terrorists involved in the attack. Initially, they were sent to five days’ custody by a local court before the case was transferred to the NIA court, which has now extended their remand.

The NIA told the court that the duo offered logistical support and shelter to three Lashkar-e-Taiba militants at a seasonal hut in Hill Park, Pahalgam, enabling their movement ahead of the attack.

According to the agency, the attack was pre-meditated and targeted tourists based on religious identity, marking it as one of the most horrific strikes on the Valley’s tourism sector in recent memory.

Investigations are ongoing to expose the wider network that supported the attackers, with the NIA continuing its efforts to unravel the full conspiracy behind the strike.
