Srinagar, July 09: In a key administrative decision, the President of India has empowered the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh to appoint officers to all Group ‘A’ General Civil Service posts within the Union Territory.
As per an official notification, all such appointments in Ladakh’s administration will now be made by the Lieutenant Governor, in accordance with Article 239 of the Constitution.
However, the notification clarifies that the appointments to two top positions — the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police, will continue to need prior approval from the Central Government—KNO
