Srinagar, Jul 17: In a significant move, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday announced the launch of Jammu and Kashmir’s first Sainik Sahayta Kendra—a dedicated grievance redressal mechanism aimed at resolving civilian issues faced by serving personnel of the Indian Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces.
Named the LG’s Sainik Sahayta Kendra, also referred to as the Soldiers Assistance and Liaison Cell, the initiative is designed to assist soldiers either posted within J&K or hailing from the Union Territory but currently serving elsewhere across the country.
According to the Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the Kendra will operate from the Civil Secretariat and will serve as a single-window platform for receiving, processing, and coordinating the resolution of grievances submitted by soldiers or their authorized representatives.
It will also help facilitate meetings between soldiers and relevant civil or police officials in their respective districts, while tracking unresolved issues to ensure timely action. The Kendra will maintain a performance dashboard for real-time tracking and will submit quarterly performance reports to the Lieutenant Governor.
The government has finalized the operational guidelines for the Kendra and appointed designated officials for its execution. As per the order issued by the General Administration Department, Prasana Ramaswamy (Secretary, Tribal Affairs), Aflaq Ahmed (Under Secretary, Revenue Department), and Abhimanyu Singh (Manager-cum-Protocol Officer, Resident Commission, J&K Government, New Delhi) have been nominated to oversee its functioning.
