November 13: Two-day National Science Conference was held on 12th &13th November 2025 at GDC women’s College Sopore. The inaugural sessions started at 11. Mr. Irshad Rasool Kar, Member Legislative Assembly Sopore was the chief guest on the occasion, other dignitaries present in the presidium include worthy Principal of the Prof. Subeena Chilloo, Mr. Shabir Ahmad Raina, ADC Sopore, SSP Sopore, Mr. Iftikhar Talib, Prof. Aijaz Hakak Principal Amar Singh College and Prof. Maryam Sarwat from Amity University Noida. The premier gathering was aimed at bringing together researchers, scientists, and students to explore groundbreaking developments at the intersection of Climate Science, Biomedical Research and epigenetics. The inaugural session was very meticulously and professionally moderated by Prof. Zubair Sayeed Masoodi by Head Department of Computer Applications.
The programme began with the National Anthem followed by the traditional Izbandh Ceremony. Before formally starting the proceedings of the conference students of the sang the college Tarana written by Prof. Shad Ramzan. This was followed by the felicitation ceremony in which all dignitaries on the presidium were present mementos as a token of respect. Worthy Principal of the college Prof. Subeena Chiloo formally welcomed the guest and also shared her thoughts about the conference and assured that such conferences will be organized in future as well for the benefit of students as well as faculty. In her welcome address madam principal also highlighted the importance of these conferences and appreciated the Organizing Secretary Dr. Jaffar Bhat. Principal Amar Singh College, Dr. Aijaz Hakak, in his speech talked about the challenges faced by the stake holders of our system. He talked about Climate Resilience and emphasized that the protection of water bodies and environment is the need of hour, An Posh Tel Yel Van Posh should be protected and followed in letter and spirit. He thanked the college, on behalf of the Higher Education Department, for the galaxy of speakers. Dr. Jaffar Bhat, the Organizing Secretary of the conference talked in length about the conference & acknowledged the contribution of his organizing committee in making the conference a success. In his insightful speech he drew a connection between basic science and applied science. He expressed his gratitude to the sponsors of the conference. Prof. Maryam Sarwat from Pharmaceutical Department, in her speech was delighted with the basic idea of conference i.e.collaboration and dissemination of knowledge. Mr. Shabir Raina ADC, Sopore expressed his gratitude to the organizing committee for putting up climate resilience on the front as it is the major concern of today’s times. The speech was followed by the release of the newsletter of the college. Prof. Falak Naz editor, Khalid Bashir graphic designer, Taskeenah Latief & Adfar Jan student editors of the newsletter also joined the release. SSP Sopore while Mr. Iftikhar Talib while sharing his thoughts on the occasion appreciated the Worthy Principal for organizing such a programme where people from science background are assembled at a common platform to create a sphere where work for community is a priority. Mr. Irshad Rasool Kar, MLA, Sopore expressed his satisfaction with the milestones the college is achieving. He assured all possible support from his side for the development of college especially in the construction of new auditorium block for college. Other important dignitaries who were present on the occasion include Prof. Shameem Ahmad, Principal, GDC Sogam, Prof. Imtiyaz Ahmad, Principal, GDC Dangiwacha, Kowsar Jabeen Principal GDC, Kreeri. A formal vote of Thanks was presented by Dr. Syed Murtaza Geelani the staff secretary of the college, he thanked one and all for making this conference a reality. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the dignitaries for sparing time and gracing the occasion. After the conclusion of inaugural session. MLA Sopore along with other dignities accompanied by Worthy principal of the college inaugurated the RFID based college library. Ms Nusrat Jabeen Khan, the college Librarian gave a ‘detailed presentation about the functioning and benefits of the RFID facility. The SSP Sopore and other dignitaries were impressed with the facility which aims at providing easy access to books in short time. Adapting to modern educational resources was highly appreciated by everyone. The keynote speaker for first technical session was Dr. Altaf Bhat, Associate professor (CIRI) University of Kashmir, while dr. Syed Sajad was the chairperson of the session, other participants of the session were Dr. Mohammad Iqbal rather, Younis Majeed, Dr. Nowsheen Hamid Bhat and Sheikh Suhail. The theme of session was Epigenetic Regulation. Dr. Syed Mubarak Hussain, department of Biology, university of New Mexico, USA gave a special Talk (Online mode).Dr. Sumiya Jamsheed acted as the rapporteur of the session. The first technical Session of second day was chaired by Dr. Saleem Farooq while dr. Syed Sajad Hussain presented by key note address on the Theme Natural products: Therapeutic potential & drug Discovery, Himanshu Gautum from Amity University, Noida, Dr. Mehraj din Talie, GDC Bandipora, Faliq Iqbal Bhat, Junaid Shafi Banday, Tajamul Islam &Safiya Mehraj presented their presentations during the session. Dr. Irfana Showqi was the rapporteur of the session. Qureshi Najmu Saqib & Iqra Gulzar, Munazah & Khushbo Akhtar, Iram Naseer from SP College Srinagar and Dr. Marayam Sarwat from Amity Institute of Pharmacy, Noida, India also presented their research paper during the session Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Tantary was the reporter of the session. 3rd and Last Technical Session of the conference was chaired Dr. Shaista Qadir, while Prof. Farooq. A. Lone, from SKAUST- K Shalimar presented a keynote address on the: Climate Change and Sustainable Agriculture. JP Mathi Guru, Dr. Showkat Subhan Mir, Dr. Mariya Akhtar Wani presented their papers/ presentations during the session. Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Tantary acted as rapporteur of the session.Valedictory Session of the conference was held at the end of the conference which was which was graced by the Prof. Ab Rashid Malik, Principal GDC Kupwara, Prof. Mohammad Shafi, Principal GDC Boys Baramulla & Prof. Mariyam Sarwat from Amity University Noida. Prof. Subbeena Chillo Principal of the host college and Dr. Syed Murtaza Geelani, coordinator of the college were also present in the presidium. Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Tantary member secretary of the conference presented a detailed report of the 2-Day conference while Dr. Parvaiz Ahamd Dar, HOD Physics presented a formal vote of thanks.
