Srinagar: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V. K. Birdi, on Thursday directed police officials to ensure comprehensive and foolproof security arrangements for the upcoming Muharram observances and International Yoga Day celebrations.
During a high-level review meeting held in Srinagar, Birdi instructed officers to make all necessary preparations to ensure the peaceful conduct of both events. Regarding Muharram, he stressed heightened surveillance on anti-national elements and mischief-makers, particularly during night processions.
The IGP urged officials to convene coordination meetings with all stakeholders to seek their cooperation and maintain harmony throughout the events. He further directed district-level officers to formulate detailed security and route plans tailored to their respective areas to prevent any disruptions.
The meeting saw participation from senior officials including IG CRPF Srinagar, JD SIB Srinagar, DIGs from Kashmir Zone, and representatives from CID, SSB, BSF, Traffic, Railways, and other security and intelligence agencies.
Officers briefed the IGP on measures being taken to manage Muharram processions, ensure crowd control, regulate traffic, and uphold law and order. Security and logistical preparations for International Yoga Day were also reviewed.
