Srinagar MP Aga Ruhullah Mehdi emphasized the urgent need for a complete moral and structural overhaul of Jammu and Kashmir’s governance system, stating that the quality of politics in the region has significantly declined.

Speaking to reporters in Sopore on Friday, Ruhullah expressed his dissatisfaction with the prevailing political environment, saying, “I am not satisfied at all.” He stressed that simply replacing political parties or leaders won’t bring real change unless the overall governance framework is improved.

“The issue is not about dismantling political organisations; it’s about raising the quality of governance. Without that, party reshuffles mean nothing,” he said.

On international affairs, Ruhullah condemned the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict, describing it as part of a broader Western-led colonial project driven by the Zionist regime. He warned that the war threatens global peace and said the entire free world, not just the Muslim community, should be concerned.

Referring to conflicts in Gaza, Yemen, and Lebanon, he said the extension of violence into Iran reflects a consistent pattern of oppression. He noted that people in Kashmir are watching these developments closely and stand in solidarity against what he termed “Zionist terrorism and injustice.”

He expressed hope that Iran’s response would help bring an end to what he called an occupation and pave the way for peace in the region.

Commenting on the issue of reservation, Ruhullah called for a transparent, time-bound discussion. He said the matter should be concluded swiftly, even if sent to the law department, it should not be allowed to drag on. “It must be resolved within a week,” he stated.

He also emphasized the role of civil society in political reform, warning that without meaningful change in political conduct, merely switching parties or faces would not help. “Unless politics itself transforms, this drama will keep continuing,” he said, urging people of Kashmir to actively support reforms.
