Locals play crucial role in success of Amarnath Pilgrimage: IGP Kashmir

Comprehensive security plan finalized

Srinagar: Emphasizing the vital role of local residents in ensuring the success of the Amarnath Yatra, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi, on Wednesday said that the pilgrimage cannot take place without the active cooperation of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking to reporters in South Kashmir, IGP Birdi, as reported by the Kashmir News Observer (KNO), noted, “The success of this pilgrimage heavily depends on the support and goodwill of locals. In our interactions with them, we have seen a great sense of enthusiasm and commitment in helping and welcoming the pilgrims, ensuring they have a smooth and safe journey.”

He stated that comprehensive security arrangements have been finalized ahead of the annual pilgrimage, which is set to begin next week. According to Birdi, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, in coordination with other security agencies, has implemented a robust, multi-layered security setup.

“This year, the arrangements are even more extensive and layered than last year. Our aim is to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the Yatra,” the IGP said.

He further explained that security measures have been strategically divided across various sectors and stretches along the pilgrimage route and within the valley. All designated areas are currently undergoing Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) drills to boost preparedness and ensure efficient crisis response.

“These drills are crucial to improving the readiness of our forces. Whether in camps, road sections, or interior areas, every unit is being trained to understand their roles clearly, so they can respond swiftly and effectively to any situation,” Birdi added.
